The Perfect Peticure

Your Basic Pedicure

1. Soak feet in a large washing up bowl with warm water and add a few drops of Tea Tree Oil (this acts as antiseptic/fungal agent). You can also add a couple of drops of peppermint to revive tired feet.

2. Take out one foot and gently pat dry with a towel.

3. Cut the toenails straight across using clippers or scissors, followed by shaping them with a nail file, make sure you file straight across, filing down towards the sides can cause ingrown toenails.

4. Apply some cuticle cream then place your foot back in the water.

5. Repeat the procedures 1-5 for the other foot.

6. After a few minutes remove the first foot and push back the cuticle with a cottonwool tipped orange stick or hoof stick, clean underneath the nail as well. Wipe of any excess cuticle cream. Then massage in some cuticle oil.

7. Remove any hard skin with either an exfoliator or a hard skin remover file. Then remove any excess grease from the toenail with varnish remover.

8. When painting the nails, I always prefer to paint a straight horizontal line at the base of the nail, followed by three strokes in the middle and outer sides, this gives a very professional appearance.
Don’t apply the coats too thinly as it will streak. However, make sure you don’t apply too much as it will take longer to dry.
Most people are best suited to bright or darker colours.
Pale colours can make feet look quite pasty unless you are having a French pedicure.
Always apply a base coat first, and finish with a top coat. I personally don’t like the dry sprays as I find they take away the shine and don’t give that professional finish.
To dry quicker, it is best to use a special formulated oil.

Voila perfect nails and the perfect excuse to go and buy some pretty sandals!
