Coty Inc. is a beauty brand founded by Francois Coty in 1904. Born Joseph Marie Francois Spoturno, a native to Corisca, he moved to Paris and adopted a more French sounding name of Francois Coty, with Coty being a variation of his mother’s maiden name. Initially a secretary, he studied perfumery under a local pharmacist and began what he hoped would be a revolution in the fragrance industry which had changed little since the 19th century. His first fragrance, La Rose Jaqueminot, was introduced in 1904 and made him a millionaire. This genius in fragrance production and marketing means Coty is now a brand known worldwide today. The beauty brand now has 78 fragrances with names that include L’Aimant, Exclamation and Miss Sixty.
